What we do

We provide the following services:

  • An easily accessible helpline weekdays 10am – 4pm, with 24/7 messaging, giving immediate safety advice to anyone (male, female, LGBTQ+) in our area who is over 16 years old.
  • When Covid restrictions are lifted we will resume face to face support services at venues across the area convenient to our clients, offering practical tailored support and options for action and client choice whatever the level of risk.  At the moment it has to be telephone support.
  • Risk assessments to national standards.
  • Personal/family safety planning and personal risk awareness.
  • Referring and representing clients at the West Kent MARAC (Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference) chaired by the Police.
  • Sign posting to other agencies or voluntary groups eg Police, Social Services, Citizens Advice, debt advice, Benefits and Housing, Counselling, legal representation, which many clients may not be aware of because of their isolation.
  • Attending meetings or at court (virtually at present) alongside clients who often find this very daunting and frightening.
  • Providing free legal advice by appointment with DAVSS pro bono Lawyer and access to pro bono barrister representation in complex cases.
  • Assisting with paperwork for people with language or literacy difficulties and providing access to Interpreters.
  • Partnering with other agencies at One Stop Shops.
  • Support to Court (helping prepare the necessary documents).
  • Coordinating and delivering Freedom Programmes and Recovery Toolkit for Adults and Children
  • Raising public awareness and providing training about domestic abuse by arranging presentations, workshops, attending business and community events and working in schools.
