In the network of support that surrounds those navigating the challenging circumstances of domestic abuse, there exists a silent lifeline – helplines. As we approach Helplines Awareness Day on Friday, 23rd February 2025, it’s time to shed light on these unsung heroes, these beacons of hope that work tirelessly behind the scenes.
Conceived by Helplines Partnership in 2022, Helplines Awareness Day stands as a testament to the indispensable role these services play in our lives. Often operating in the shadows, helplines are the secret superheroes offering a steady hand and a comforting voice to those in need.

The work of helplines is akin to a quiet revolution – impactful, transformative, and often unseen. Their support is not bound by time or circumstance; they stand as a pillar of strength, available day and night. Like a guardian angel, the DAVSS helpline is easily accessible on weekdays from 10 am to 1 pm, with 24/7 messaging services. This helpline extends immediate safety advice to anyone, irrespective of gender or sexual orientation, above the age of 16 in our area. The number to call is 01892 570538.
And whilst DAVSS support is specifically focussed on the West Kent area, there is a National Domestic Abuse Helpline that offers a 24/7 service and is available on 0808 2000 247 or Victim Support have a free, 24 hour Supportline on 0808 168 9111 and live chat available on their website.

Let’s explore the support that the DAVSS helpline offers. It’s more than just a phone conversation; it’s a lifeline for those navigating the complex terrain of domestic abuse. This helpline is a refuge, a place where stories are heard, pain is acknowledged, and strength is cultivated.
Helplines offer more than just a listening ear. They are a source of empowerment, providing crucial information, guidance, and resources. Whether it’s offering immediate safety advice, connecting individuals with local support services, or simply being a non-judgmental space to share one’s story, helplines play a pivotal role in the journey toward healing.
This Helplines Awareness Day, we invite you to join us in raising awareness. Share your helpline story, or that of someone you know, and let’s amplify the impact of these essential services. By unveiling the stories of support, we dismantle the stigma around seeking help and pave the way for a community that stands united against domestic abuse.
This Helplines Awareness Day, let’s celebrate the quiet strength that helplines provide and work together to ensure that no one faces the challenges of domestic abuse alone.
Remember, a simple call can be the first step toward a brighter tomorrow.
