Domestic Abuse costs the NHS £1.4 billion pounds every year due to its considerable impact on health and well being. Aside from treating physical injuries, 68% of people who experience domestic abuse will also suffer clinical depression, one third of these will suffer from PTSD. The effects of domestic abuse can be severe and long lasting.
The health of children who witness domestic abuse is also likely to be affected.
DAVSS is delighted to be working with GP surgeries across West Kent to raise awareness of domestic abuse among staff. This will help early identification and enable them to signpost their patients to available help and support.
