Day 14 of 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence

Domestic abuse Awareness for Youth (DAY Programme)

DAY is a multimedia programme using short films, advertisements and chart music to raise awareness and provide education about domestic abuse and child sexual exploitation in a relevant way to young people between the ages of 13 and 22. Most importantly it promotes safe and healthy relationships.

  • 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 5 boys are subjected to physical violence by a partner
  • 72% of girls and 51% of boys are subjected to emotional violence by a partner
  • Young people need educating about healthy relationships

There are some real horror stories about children and young people being sexually exploited by grown-ups, many are groomed by abusers. It is important we educate at-risk young people about relationships because the majority of victims of child sexual exploitation view their abuser as a "boyfriend".

DAY helps to ensure fewer young people experience, or perpetrate, abuse and provides all young people with a model for healthy relationships.

Since July 2016, DAVSS has provided the Day Programme to 501 young people in schools throughout the local area. 16 tutors have also participated in DAY.

The programme is really well received:

  • “Very good, made me aware of some things I did not know”
  • “I had never thought what consent meant before (DAY)”
  • “I feel the way relationships were talked about was good because it applies to people of all sexualities and genders”

If you work in a school or youth organisation and would like DAVSS to run a DAY programme for you, please contact the DAVSS office at
