Domestic Abuse Volunteer Support Services - talk to us

16 Days of Positive Action Against Domestic Abuse

Hi, my name is Henu Cummins and I have the privilege to be the CEO of DAVSS, the award winning West Kent Domestic Abuse charity. DAVSS (Domestic Abuse Volunteer Support Service) professionally trains volunteer members of the community to provide support to women and men who are experiencing domestic abuse, helping them to stay safe and take back control of their lives. Domestic Abuse knows no social bounds, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 5 men will experience domestic abuse at some point in their life.

DAVSS is supporting the 16 Days of Positive Action campaign to lift the lid on domestic abuse. Would you recognise it if it happened to you, a friend or a work colleague? Domestic Abuse does not necessarily involve physical injury, abuse can be quite subtle.

Domestic Abuse costs the NHS £1.4 billion pounds every year, DAVSS is working in partnership with local GP’s to identify abusive relationships and signpost them to help.

75% of people who experience domestic abuse are targeted at work, the cost to business is huge.  DAVSS wants to work in partnership with local businesses  supporting them in providing a working environment free from harm, for some it is the only place they feel safe.

Over the next 16 days we will explain what domestic abuse is & how to access support. We will promote healthy relationships and produce a toolkit for employers to support their staff.

DAVSS wants to provide a sense of hope to those who experience domestic abuse as to be a source of support to the business community too.

This is your opportunity to take positive action against domestic abuse. Check back every day to learn more,  stay in contact and consider becoming a Friend of DAVSS,  or an Ambassador in your workplace.

Be positive, be part of the solution. Interested in finding out more email me henu.cummins@davss.org.uk
